Live Boldly

Have you ever had moments where you felt like fear was all consuming? Maybe it was more than a moment. Have you ever let fear dictate when you speak, what you say, where you go and what you do? Maybe fear keeps you from going, from doing and from speaking at all.

Why are we so easily swayed by fear? Why is it so easy to hear and believe the noise of this world and not God’s own word?

“for God gave us a spirit NOT of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
-2 Timothy 1:7 (emphasis mine)

If the verse above is true, then why does God have to tell us to “fear not” and tell us “do not be afraid” so many times throughout the Bible?

Because we live in a sinful world. Sin broke our relationship with God way back in the beginning. That’s why Jesus came- to bridge the giant void that sin caused between God and man.

How do you build trust and confidence in a a person? It takes time, doesn’t it? It takes consistently proving trustworthiness over a long period of time. Only then you can begin to really rely on a person and be confident that they will do what they say. But with people, even a lifetime spent building trust can be destroyed in the blink of an eye when someone you trusted suddenly fails you. And that doesn’t just destroy your trust in that one person. It destroys your trust in others as well, ushering in a tidal wave of doubt and fear.

But God is not like us. His ways are higher than our ways. His knowledge is infinite. His love is steadfast and endures forever. He is always faithful to His promises.

God has already stood the test of time in human terms. He has already been proven trustworthy. He has gone so far beyond the point of faithfulness, that in the great outpouring of His amazing love, God Himself stepped down from the throne of heaven to live among us, teach us and even serve us. He even humbled Himself by kneeling in the dirt to wash people’s feet. And then He shed His own blood, paying our debt of sin in full (Romans 6:23), bridging that gap between God and man forever. If that’s not enough, He then overcame death by rising from the grave.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33

We have a BIG God. He is not a genie in a lamp here to grant our every whim and wish. He is bigger. We are here for His glory, not our own.

That is why you know you can trust God and be confident in Him. Because He created us for His very own glory, but still left His own throne and gave His own life for us. For you and for me.

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
– John 15:13

Be confident in the God who chose you. With love and power like that in your corner, how can you not be brave and courageous?

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
– Romans 8;31

Being afraid to step out and be bold is scary. But you can walk confidently toward that fear, trusting God and wearing His armor.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” – Ephesians 6:13-20

God did not create us to hide in a safe, comfortable place. He created us to go out and spread His good news to the ends of the earth, making disciples of all nations.

Be brave, be bold, be confident in God. Out of love, God came to the world and gave His life for us. Let that love overflow from your cup to those around you. Do not be afraid to get down on your knees in the dirt to serve them with love. Most times that speaks louder than our words and takes far more courage.

You want to make a difference in the world? Live boldly, love deeply, serve greatly and He will change the world through you.
