Signals strong after Wilkinson's surgery

Not only is 2000 Olympic gold medalist Laura Wilkinson not retiring, she's doubling her diving workload.

Wilkinson, who finished fifth at the 2004 Games in Athens, underwent arthroscopic surgery Monday to repair her right wrist, which was injured a year ago. The wrist, which required three cortisone shots during the year, may have contributed to a right triceps injury that hampered her Olympic training last spring.

After six weeks of rehab, Wilkinson will resume training not only on 10-meter platform but on 3-meter springboard, where she has not competed since she suffered a crushed foot before the 2000 Olympics.

"I'm glad to have the surgery behind me, and I anticipate a full recovery," she said.

Wilkinson is scheduled to return to competition at the American Cup at Midland in April.
