HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Laura Wilkinson finished with a near perfect dive Friday to win her fourth consecutive platform gold medal at the U.S. National Diving Championships.
Troy Dumais edged his brother to win his fourth straight 3-meter springboard title, while David Boudia and Thomas Finchum won the men's platform synchro.
Wilkinson, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist, trailed Brittany Viola going into her fifth dive, a back 2 1/2 somersault with 1 1/2 twists. She nailed it, receiving one 9 and six perfect 10s from the judges to finish with 541.800 points.
"I knew I had to hit it,'' said Wilkinson, who was fifth in last year's Olympics. "That's definitely one of my best dives and I'm pretty confident with it. I've gotten a lot of 9s before, but never 10s. It's pretty awesome.''
Viola finished second with 507.420 as her father, former Cy Young Award winner Frank Viola, watched from the stands. Heather Bounds was third.
Wilkinson also won a platform gold last month at the world championships.
"I had the stress of working on a new dive this week and I was having some trouble with another dive, so to be able to finish strong like that is exciting,'' Wilkinson said.
Dumais, who finished second in last month's world championships and sixth at the Athens Olympics, had 712.800 points. His brother, Justin, finished second with 684.090. Jevon Tarantino, who won the 1-meter title Thursday, was third.
Troy Dumais had a strong fifth dive - a reverse 3 1/2 somersault pike - that allowed him to overcome a poor final dive.
"Today that dive fell into place,'' said Dumais, who teamed with his brother to win the 3-meter synchro gold Thursday. "I'm pleased, but I didn't finish as strong as I could have. Still, I'm very pleased with where I am right now.''
Boudia and Finchum finished with 326.880 points. Matt Bricker and J.J. Kinzbach were second with 296.520, while Drew Livingston and Harrison Jones took the bronze.
