Three Olympians win at U.S. Open

Two-time Olympian Laura Wilkinson (Spring, Texas) and 2005 national champion Thomas Finchum
(Indianapolis) won individual gold medals at the Speedo U.S. Open Diving Championships on Saturday
at the Indiana University Natatorium on the IUPUI campus.

Wilkinson placed first in the women’s platform competition, and Finchum won the men’s 3-meter title.

Finchum totaled 418.40 points in his winning performance, and Kellen Harkness (Puyallup, Wash.)
earned the silver with 399.150 points. Steven Segerlin (Webster, N.Y.) rounded out the medalists
with a third-place score of 391.85.

Wilkinson scored 359.30 points to edge out silver medalist Haley Ishimatsu (Seal Beach, Calif.), who
finished with 338.95 points. Katie Bell’s (Columbus, Ohio) 315.90 points earned her the bronze medal.

Two other 2004 Olympians – Justin Wilcock (Smithfield, Utah) and Cassandra Cardinell (Loudonville, N.Y.) –
won a share of gold in synchronized diving action. In men’s 3-meter synchronized diving, Wilcock teamed
up with David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) to turn in a first-place 357.63 performance. In women’s synchro
platform, Cardinell and Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill.) scored 289.62 points for the win.
