Wilkinson captures two gold medals at 2005 Speedo National Diving Championships

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.- Former Longhorn diving star Laura Wilkinson (Texas, 2000) captured gold medals in the 10-meter platform and the women's synchronized platform at the 2005 Speedo National Diving Championships in Huntersville, N.C. this past weekend (Aug. 12-13).

Wilkinson, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the 10-meter platform and an eight-time All-American at UT, staged a comeback victory in the women's platform event to take her fourth straight national platform title. After trailing going into the final round, Wilkinson received six perfect 10 scores out of seven on her final dive, a back 2-1/2 somersaults with 1-1/2 twists, to win the gold by 34 points on Friday night. Wilkinson (541.80 points) finished ahead of runner-up Brittany Viola (507.42 points).

Wilkinson then teamed with Jessica Livingston in the women's synchronized platform to earn her second gold medal of the meet. Wilkinson and Livingston collected 297.30 points to best runner-ups Audra Egenolf and Ellis Walters (253.41). Wilkinson's performance helped the Woodlands Diving Team (179 points) take the team title over Team Orlando Diving (76 points).
